![]() Like Holly, Xander’s a studious adolescent who wants to excel in school. Our other protagonist, Xander Herrera, is Holly’s mirror character. When Holly asks whether her nose is broken, one classmate responds, “No.” Holly, “Too bad. In the scene, a basketball hits Holly square in the face, knocking her to the ground and causing her nose to bleed. A gym class scene perfect illustrates Holly’s determinedly positive personality. She’s an endearing extrovert who wants to make friends, excel in school and stay out of trouble. The title character, Holly, is a studious, unwaveringly cheerful adolescent. Narvaez creates two very different and equally entertaining teenaged protagonists to guide readers through the story. The story is thick with the fashion and feel of the late 1970s. ![]() The smart plot, layered characters, and unique storytelling kept me turning the pages.
